James was half of the duo, Crash Symphony, which formed in 2002, signed a publishing deal in 2004, released its first album ’My Girlfriend the Assassin’ in 2005, and launched their second album ’Crash Symphony Live at The Basement’ in 2006. They featured on TV shows such as Mcleod’s Daughters, Bondi Rescue, Scout TV, and signed a distribution deal in the UK. Their music is available on over 60 different online stores including iTunes.

James has since started Crash Symphony Productions, a boutique recording studio and production house. He also specializes in film and television music.

In 2012 James released an iPhone App called “Audio Engineer”, which has enjoyed instant success being the world’s first app textbook for audio engineers, producers and musicians.

James’ days are filled making albums for his clients. He also plays music in hospitals all over Sydney, whilst at night he performs at weddings, cooperate functions, pubs and clubs. He has a smooth tenor vocal tone that is often compared to Sting and can play anything from Lounge Jazz, Standards, to Pub rock, as well as an eclectic mix of contemporary hits.

Led by Sydney’s veteran blues player, Bruce Jr Bongers,  the Jewel-Tones Trio play an intimate, heart-felt mix of funky & swinging, soulful grooves that always have a firm foundation in the raw Chicago blues of the ‘50’s & 60’s.  Expect some Little Walter & Jr Wells harmonica-based pieces but be prepared for tasteful excursions into soul, funk and groovy, organ-based jazz, sometimes augmented by Bruce’s soulful baritone saxophone playing.

Bruce (vocals, harmonicas, saxophone: ex Jr & the Gold-Tops, Bigtop Blues Band, Downhome Quartet) is joined by guitarist Dave Shaw and master keyboardist John Tweed.

The band came about when Bruce & Dave were playing with another unit. They quickly realized the affinity they had with each other’s playing. Both had a deep appreciation of the subtle synergies of the guitar and harmonica’s roles in classic Chicago blues and also an adventurous spirit that prepared them to explore more closely areas of soulful jazzy grooves.

With a wide-range of influences (including Jr Wells, Robert Jr Lockwood, Little Walter, Jimmy Smith, Ronnie Earl, Pepper Adams, Kenny Burrell) the Jewel-Tones are steadily carving out a unique niche in Sydney’s R& B scene. They have the experience, chops & subtlety to hold audiences in awe.

Seamlessly fusing all the musical nuances of funk, jazz, gospel, reggae, to latin, rock, hip hop, & soul with a voice reminiscent of Donnie Hathaway, Stevie Wonder, D’Angelo and Me’Shell, The Darryl Beaton Band is more an experience than just a gig. This multicultural band of misfits delivers its original music in a way like no other and takes Australian Soul Music to an international level.

Darryl has played or recorded piano and keys with acts as diverse as Kanye West, Katie Noonan, Harry Connick Junior, KC & JoJo, Thelma Houston, Sneaky Sound System, Human Nature, Guy Sebastian, & Jade Macrae He also has numerous production credits including tracks for Mariah Carey, Deni Hines & Tina Arena just to name a few.

A while ago Darryl set out on a mission to find the players capable of delivering his music to the masses. It was not long before he joined forces with the acclaimed Martinez family - Andro on guitar, Fenix on keys and Dauno on bass. When he also acquired the driving grooves of Kevin Mendoza on drums, and Yanya Boston on percussion, the full vision was realized. These hand picked musicians are all well respected artists in their own right and between them they have played in all corners of the globe. With the puzzle complete these formidable live musicians fearlessly explore a multitude of aural disciplines.

In the past three years, The Darryl Beaton Band has successfully toured Japan 3 times off the back of their Debut album “From The Ground Up” and are beginning to establish themselves as a ‘must see live’ act guaranteed to entertain and keep audiences moving long after the show has ended…
